ABOUT
Bridges for Science is a non-profit social initiative that aims to connect policymakers and academics to foster evidence-based policymaking in different Latin American countries. It started in 2019 as a spin-off project of Shaping Horizons at the University of Cambridge. In extraordinary times, we believe that science and evidence should lead government decisions at all the different levels of the public administration. Our team encourages this approach among the efforts to tackle the most pressing societal challenges of our generation - including the promotion of evidence-based collaboration among science, technology and policymakers by identifying and connecting ideas to solutions.

MEET THE EXECUTIVE TEAM
Patricia Tsuda
Main Advisor (Shaping Horizon)
Patricia Tsuda has a solid experience in international banking in Lima and New York with focus on strategy, business development and investments. She is very enthusiastic in innovative business ventures and transformations. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and an MBA from Ross Business School University of Michigan.

Daniela Villacreces Villacis
Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Daniela holds a MSc in Economics for Development at the University of Oxford and holds a BSc in Political Economy from King’s College London. She is an economics consultant of the International Center for Tax and Development (ICTD). She has experience in project management related to poverty alleviation and social action in Ecuador in collaboration with the World Scout Movement. She is passionate about improving policymaking in Latin America and in her home country, Ecuador.

Mildred G. Jiménez Rodríguez
Chief Operating Officer (COO)
Mildred holds a B.Sc. degree in Biotechnology Engineering from Tecnológico de Monterrey. She has led and participated in several nonprofit initiatives to boost the development of the Latin American bioeconomy through science communication and evidence-based policymaking.
Thiago Elert Soares
Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Thiago has experience in strategic consulting and policy engagement with international organisations and government institutions. He holds an MPP from the Hertie School of Governance as a DAAD Helmut-Schmidt Scholar and an MSc in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) as a UK Chevening Scholar.
Alexis Dick
Member of the Executive Board
Alexis is a Public Accountant from the National University of Asuncion. He was a scholar of the Erasmus program of the EU, doing part of his studies at the University of Lodz. After accumulating experience in private banking, the public sector, and NGOs, he is now working as a policy consultant. He was recently appointed as Young Leader of Ibero-America by the Carolina Foundation.
Carolina Rojas Echeverri
Webinar Specialist
Carolina is pursuing her B.Sc in Mechanical Engineering and works as a Research Assistant at the Fab Lab in Universidad Tecnológica de Panamá. She has experience working in the global development sector and wants to contribute to sustainable development both in the engineering and policy spectrum of the challenge. She is involved in projects that aim to create bridges between people and manufacturing technologies to strengthen the culture of tech development in LatAm.
Marjorie Zambonino
Regional Ambassadors Lead
Marjorie studies Biomedical Engineering at Yachay Tech University in Ecuador. She is the Co-Founder of the initiative Operacion K that seeks to connect Academy, Industry, and Diplomacy in Ecuador since 2019. She has experience in innovative biomedical research, bioentrepreneurship, project management and has participated in various international programs to integrate science in different fields and to encourage women in STEM.
Alonso Pérez
Marketing Coordinator
Alonso has a degree in Social Communication from Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán. He has worked in the areas of Organizational Communication, Marketing and Public Relations in the public and private sectors. He is also an Independent Consultant for technology-based companies and brands on Leadership, Emotional Intelligence, Inclusion and Diversity issues. He is passionate about gender issues and works to contribute to the development of Mexico and LATAM.

Strengthening science awareness
To advance its mission, Bridges for Science works in partnership with scientific and policy-related institutions to develop digital toolkits. For academics, this material illustrates how to reach, communicate scientific discoveries and provide advice to policymakers based on evidence. For policymakers, this information is focused on the importance of scientific evidence in the policymaking process and how to find relevant academic advice to inform policy decisions.
Networking to promote change
At Bridges for Science, we are dedicated to stepping up our efforts in linking the science and policy worlds. That is why we organise Bridges for Science Nights in Latin American cities. During these events, politicians, groups of academics and experts are able to interact with each other in informal safe-spaces. We create the opportunity for politicians to ask and get advice, but also for academics to emphasise important issues and relevant evidence generated from their research. We are always striving to make a difference, and invite you to learn more and lend your support.
